Recently there was an article in the New Haven Register concerning the special Mayoral election in Hamden.
There was speculation that there were political motives behind Scott Jackson rushing off to a big job in Hartford.
It was mentioned that this was a ploy to get the #2 guy, Curt Leng, in as Mayor, prior to the next election. This certainly is a side benefit for the Democratic Party, to have an incumbent in place before the regular election.
I think the motivation for Scott Jackson to leave the Mayor’s seat so quickly had a bigger motive.
Former Mayor Jackson said that he would not finish out his term because he didn’t want to be a lameduck mayor. Really Scott? That is the best you could come up with?
The salary for Scott Jackson’s new job in Hartford is $150,000 a year.
A whopping 58% increase from his $95,000 a year salary as Mayor. That is the real reason why he ran up to Hartford so fast. Maybe with a $55,000 increase, he can compensate the town for the $25,000 cost for the special election.
Since we are on the subject of money, how can the Hamden Town Council justify a 15.7% pay increase for the Mayor in the new budget?
The town is in dire financial straits, with non-stop tax increases and they hand out a 15% raise to the Mayor? Who can justify that amount of an increase these days?
This is typical of Hamden politics and cronyism at its best. We need to end the politics that is killing this town.
It is time to go to a town manager system like Cheshire and run the town as a business!
