Supt. of Schools Jody Groeler presented his proposed 2015-16 budget to the Board of Education Tuesday night, and some of it was a bitter pill to swallow with the elimination of 17 teaching positions, two paraprofessional positions and one clerical position.
But the moves are necessary as the district begins to prepare for the possible loss of state Alliance District grants in two years, he said.
The district has received several million dollars in the grants that are supposed to help eliminate the achievement gap between poorer urban students and their suburban counterparts. But in two years, that program ends.
