Due to the extreme heat forecast, all public buildings, including libraries and fire stations, are air-conditioned and open to the public during regular business hours, with some locations open on weekends and through the evenings.
Locations such as the Government Center, Keefe Center, Police Department, and the Miller Library Complex have been designated as cooling stations and will have water available to those in need. The cooling stations are meant for temporary respite from the heat, especially for the elderly and those with respiratory issues.
For more information, please contact Fire Chief Berardesca’s office at 203-407-5880 and in cases of emergency always call 911.
The front foyer of the Police Department will function as a cooling center with 24 hour access. Operating hours for the Miller Library are 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 10 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Branch Libraries are closed on Wednesdays and weekends. Visit www.hamdenlibrary.org for complete operating hours of branch libraries. Operating hours for all other locations are 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
