State Rep. Michael D’Agostino, left, with 88th District candidate and Legislative Council President James Pascarella.

To the Editor:

It may come as a surprise to some to learn that there is a Democratic Party primary on Tuesday, Aug. 9. The winner will run in November to replace Brendan Sharkey as Hamden’s state representative for the 88th General Assembly district. This is actually one of the more important elections in recent town history. … Continue Reading

LETTER: DeLauro Endorses Leng

October 18, 2015 Elections, Opinion Comments Off on LETTER: DeLauro Endorses Leng

delauro_rosaTo the Editor:

It is my pleasure to endorse Curt Balzano Leng for Mayor of Hamden.

Curt is a proven leader who is committed to Hamden.  He has led the charge for a safer Hamden, through his continued support of community policing, foot patrols and in the procurement of innovative policing software.

Curt has been the architect of 4 consecutive balanced budgets in Hamden, improving the credit rating of the town and increasing the town’s reserve fund to protect the town’s budget in the event of emergency.   … Continue Reading

In response to the recent resignation of two Hamden Democrats, and a recent article published in the New Haven Register, Bob Anthony has stated the following:

The Hamden Democrats have had control over the office of Mayor for all but two of the last 28 years and their committee chairman would have us believe that not one mayor bears responsibility for the dismal fiscal condition of this town. … Continue Reading

LETTER: Special Election Democratic Ploy

May 27, 2015 Elections, Opinion Comments Off on LETTER: Special Election Democratic Ploy

To the Editor:
Scott Jackson left office on April 17.  If he had stayed in office until the beginning of May, there would have been no need for an expensive town-wide Special Mayoral Election on Thursday May 28***.
I believe that the Special Election is a cynical ploy by the Democratic Party machine to get Curt Leng established as the incumbent before the regular mayoral election in November.
I also believe that we need better candidates, in November, than thoseon Thursday’s ballot (see sample ballot below).
If you agree with me, please fill in “1D” on the ballot for a write-in protest vote.  I have agreed to allow my name to be used as a write-in candidate because I am qualified to be Mayor of Hamden, as you can see if you look at my profile and experience on LinkedIn, for example.  However, you should write in whatever name you choose.
If you want better candidates for mayor in November, write in your protest vote and share this message with your friends and neighbors.
Ann M. Altman Ph.D.
***”The town charter calls for a special election if there is six months left in the departing official’s term, which means the parties could be faced with holding three elections this year: a special election to finish out Jackson’s term, likely in June; a primary in August to determine candidates for the November election; and then the November election itself.” (New Haven Register)

LETTER: Fund CT School Based Health Centers

May 27, 2015 Opinion Comments Off on LETTER: Fund CT School Based Health Centers

hamden high momTo the Editor:

I am writing to advocate for full funding of Connecticut School Based Health Centers. The School Based Health Centers at Hamden High School and Church Street Elementary School treat hundreds of Hamden students and support their health, welfare, and education. The proposed cuts to current funding levels would be detrimental to these programs and to the children served by them, many of whom are at-risk. … Continue Reading
