Hamden RTC Chairman Matt Corcoran Dies at 38

corcoranHamden Republican Town Committee Chairman Matthew Corcoran passed away this past weekend. He was 38.

Corcoran ran for several offices, including state representative and mayor, and led the Republican Town Committee since the beginning of the year. He was an attorney and sat on several town commissions.

He was well liked on both sides of the aisle. When his appointments to the various commissions came before the Legislative Council, each time Democratic council members would comment on his commitment to the town

Louise was born in New Haven on Jan. 11, 1925, a daughter of the late Frank Sznurkowski and Pauline Modzelewski, and was a graduate of Hillhouse High School. She was employed by Union Trust for 17 years and developed a lifelong friendship with her co-workers, Lillian, Jean, Gloria and others.

1del1Margaret Caldwell Nolan O’Brien, 95, formerly of Spring Glen, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 in Pompano Beach, Florida.

She was born Dec. 27, 1918, the first child of the late Agnes Caldwell and D. Howard Nolan. Mrs. O’Brien graduated from Larson College, currently Quinnipiac University, in 1939. She also received an honorary Bachelor of Science degree from Quinnipiac University in May, 2001.

She was president of New Haven Women’s Intermediate Club in 1959 and 1971 and president of The Ladies Guild of St Rita Church in 1972. In addition, Mrs. O’Brien was a past recording secretary of St Rita Church Parish Council, Chairman of the Ladies Golf Association at Laurel View Country Club, and Patient Service Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Greater New Haven. She was also a past member of the High Lane Club, North Haven, Connecticut, where she was an avid bowler and Entertainment Chairman. … Continue Reading
