1del1The Planning and Zoning Commission wrapped up its public comment sessions on the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development Tuesday night with a discussion on implementing a policy to make sure sidewalks don’t become a town liability.

Town Engineer Bob Brinton said there have been problems with sidewalks lifted by tree roots, but there’s no procedure in place between his department and the Department of Public Works regarding removing and replacing the offending trees.

Two Hamden roads known for their scenic value will be paved in the coming months.

Normally paving town roads isn’t an issue that would take up much of the Legislative Council’s time, but two roads slated to be paved this fall are designated scenic and needed the council’s approval.

By charter, the Legislative Council has to approve paving projects on roads designated as scenic, Councilwoman Kath Schomaker said.

Spruce Bank Road, which is off of Ives Street, and Tuttle Avenue, both in the Mount Carmel section of Hamden, are slated for the work, which several council members said is much needed. … Continue Reading

Hamden Public Works About to Get FuelMaster System

It has taken a while, but the installation of a new fuel dispensing system at Hamden Public Works that will save money and help track the town’s fleet is finally imminent.

For more than a decade, plans have been to install the FuelMaster system at the pumps at the Shepard Avenue facility. It’s been a long process that has at times been complicated but now it’s about to be installed.

1matherA developer who specializes in building multi-family housing for veterans and people with Multiple Sclerosis got the green light recently for a development on Mather Street off Dixwell Avenue.

The developer is proposing building a 77-unit development on just under five acres at 415 Mather St., about 110 feet from the intersection of Dixwell Avenue. The development would be made up of two buildings, one with 41 apartments and the other with 36 apartments. Forty-five percent of the units would have one bedroom, while 47 percent would have two bedrooms and 8 percent would have three bedrooms. … Continue Reading
