QU Threatens to Withdraw Payment Over Zoning Amendment

quThe Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday postponed taking action on the proposed amendment that would require Quinnipiac University to submit for commission approval a five-year master plan after the school indicated that passage of the amendment would jeopardize the voluntary $1.2 million payment it had agreed to give the town.

“Undoubtedly, the commissioners are aware of the yet-to-be-signed Memorandum of Understanding between the town and the Quinnipiac University,” Asst. yorkhillHoping to halt the seeping of student housing into residential neighborhoods, the Planning and Zoning Commission next week will consider an amendment to its regulations that will require colleges and universities — specifically, Quinnipiac University — to submit five-year Institutional Master Plan that will require commission approval.

1vetscoverOn Tuesday dozens of people, including veterans, town  officials and residents, packed into the Rotunda at Memorial Town Hall to thank those who served in any of the nation’s military branches and to add names of a fallen residents to the Wall of Honor, including a new section for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. John T. Gallagher and Brigadier General Alfred Moody were added to the Vietnam War Wall, and Capt. Benjamin A. Sklaver is the first name to be added to the Operation Enduring Freedom Wall.
