A Hamden man was among those recently honored at the VNA of South Central CT’s 110th Annual Meeting and Community Awards event held last week at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven.

VNA Board Volunteer of the Year Award went to Hamden resident Anthony DiSalvo, who is the board chairman of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority.

 

New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro spoke at the event and praised the services of the VNA of South Central CT. Blumenthal and DeLauro also presented citations from the US Senate and House of Representatives to all of the award recipients.

The annual VNA/SCC Awards seek to honor organizations and individuals who have truly worked hand-in-hand with the VNA/SCC toward its mission of providing high-quality health care to those at home and in the community. … Continue Reading

railroad logoTwo area communities will be getting new train stations under the plan Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Friday.

The Wallingford and Meriden train stations will be rebuilt as part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, according to Malloy. Berlin also will get a new station, and the entire line will be rebranded as the Hartford Line, according to the governor’s office.

“This is a major milestone for NHHS as it enters the construction phase at stations in Wallingford, Meriden and Berlin,” Malloy said. … Continue Reading

On Sept. 30, the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts promoted seven students to their new ranks.

“Being promoted to a new rank takes strength, persistence and determination” said Shihan Frank Ciarleglio, Test Administrator and Instructor at the Academy.

“The strength comes from within to learn about yourself and to use what you learn to become better,” he said. “Sometimes this is a difficult task and that is when the persistence kicks in which takes self-discipline to keep working at it. But without having the determination to succeed, one may find themselves looking for a way out when it becomes difficult rather than looking for the solution on how to overcome the obstacle ahead.” … Continue Reading
